About Us

A simple guide for your life in Canada

Moving to a new country is exciting, and confusing at the same time.

When you arrive in Canada, there are many things to figure out:

  • Where to live

  • How to get a phone plan

  • Which bank account to open

  • How credit works

  • What documents you need

  • How to study, work, and plan your future

NewcomerSetup exists to help make all of this clearer and more manageable.

Who’s behind NewcomerSetup

My name is Javier.

I was born in Mexico and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia eight years ago. Canada is now my home.

Like many newcomers, I had to learn everything step by step:

  • Finding housing

  • Choosing phone and internet plans

  • Opening bank accounts

  • Getting a SIN number

  • Improving my English

  • Making friends

  • Finding and growing a career

Later came bigger challenges:

  • Work permit extensions

  • Validating my degree from my home country

  • English language tests

  • Permanent Residency

  • Understanding taxes

  • Long-term financial planning

Today, I’m focused on building a stable and prosperous life in Canada, career growth, saving, investing, and long-term goals like property ownership. I’m also proud to now be a Canadian citizen.

I know how confusing this journey can feel, because I’ve lived it.

Why this platform exists

When I was new to Canada, the hardest part wasn’t effort, it was knowing what to do first.

Information was everywhere, but it was:

  • Scattered

  • Hard to compare

  • Often written for people already familiar with the system

NewcomerSetup was created to bring clarity and structure to that experience.

Instead of trying to do everything at once, we help you:

  • Understand where you are right now

  • Focus on what matters next

  • Learn about services commonly used by newcomers

More than a quiz

The setup quiz is just the starting point.

Over time, NewcomerSetup brings together practical resources related to:

  • Financial services (banking, credit, savings)

  • Education and language learning

  • Immigration and documentation

  • Work, career, and everyday services

The goal is not to push decisions, but to help you understand your options and move forward with confidence.

You choose what to explore, when it feels right.

How recommendations are chosen

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and have worked with several prominent companies in Canada, including:

  • Major financial institutions and banks

  • Online education and publishing companies

  • Technology and digital service providers

Because of this experience, the tools and services shared on NewcomerSetup are carefully reviewed and explained.

Some links may earn a commission, which helps support the platform, but recommendations are:

  • Independent

  • Clearly explained

  • Never mandatory

NewcomerSetup is not a bank, government service, or immigration advisor.
We provide general information, not financial or legal advice.

Our role in your journey

You are the one building your life in Canada.

NewcomerSetup is here to:

  • Reduce confusion

  • Save you time

  • Help you avoid common mistakes

  • Point you toward reliable resources

We act as a guide, not a decision-maker.

A personal note

Canada is a beautiful country, and it has given me many opportunities.

If sharing what I’ve learned helps others feel more confident, more prepared, or more at home here, then this work matters.

You don’t need to have everything figured out today.
You just need a clear place to start.
